This page contains the data and analysis of a brain wave recording session I did using a Muse EEG Headband.
Session Characteristics
- 09/11/2023, 23:08
- During this session, I was testing aThetaAudiovisual Brainwave Entrainment track I created.
- I was listening to the track with my eyes open.
Key Insights
- + 20%Thetadominance
- + 41%Betadominance
- + 100%Gammadominance
- Beta+Gammabrain wave phase coherence
All Sensors
- Similarly to previousThetaentrainment sessions, three distinct bands are formed —Alphaseparated on top,Gammaseparated at the bottom, and Theta,Beta, and Delta in the middle.
- As usual,Alphadominates, but not as much as when my eyes are closed. Therefore,Alphaappears less separated from the frequencies below.
- Unlike the previous session, which was also aThetaaudiovisual entrainment track,Gammaenegy doesn’t increase over time.
- Thetahas second-place dominance across most of the session, however, this is most likely due to me being in a calm state than it is a result of entrainment. So we’ll have to keep looking for clearer entrainment signs elsewhere.

Right-Back Sensor (TP10, Gamma and Delta Isolated)
- Looking at the Right-Back quadrant, signs of entrainment can be found ✅
- Namely, the behavior of theGammafrequency range — an oscillating sinusoidal pattern with sustained and consistent peaks and valleys.
- Similar effects have been observed in some previous sessions and were initially observed in Session 19.
- Just like in Session 24 (actually, even better), this phenomenon seems to be very prominent in this particular session and is able to sustain it for multiple minutes.
- Audiovisual entrainment seems to be the best technique to achieve this effect so far.

- During the phenomenon, we can also observe lots of phase synchronization betweenGammaandBeta(peaks and valleys align).

How Does Dominance Change Over Time?
The graphs shown below show how dominant frequencies were across the session, in %.
- Here are the most relevant events;
- Deltadecreased in dominance by an average of 50% in all sensors.
- Alphadecreased in dominance by an average of 44% in all sensors.
- Thetaincreased in dominance by 20% in the Front-Right (AF8) quadrant, however this seems to be a result of the decrease in energy fromDelta, and not out of its own merit, so it doesn’t seem very relevant.
- BetaandGamma also increased in dominance in the Front-Right (AF8) quadrant, with an increase of 41% and 100% respectively. Gammanot only increased in dominance but also in energy levels over time. I would attribute this to the entrainment ✅

For reference: the circle with the black circumference marks the central area of the brain. Activity inside it is more central and symmetrical; outside is more asymmetrical.
